To coincide with the Henley exhibition, from 15 July I'll be showing a selection of Cornish work at Modern Artists Gallery in nearby Whitchurch-on-Thames, including 'Penzance 3', the last remaining painting in the Penzance series and 'Porthleven 22' (below).

Since 2007, renowned landscape painter and colourist Ashley Hanson, a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists, has hosted a series of courses in Cornwall, under the banner ‘Freedom in Painting’, attracting artists from all over the country and internationally wishing to push their practice forwards. In their response to the beautiful coastal landscape and harbour-towns of Cornwall - Porthleven, Port Issac, Polperro, Polruan - each artist has found their own personal freedom in painting. The Group was formed for all participating artists to share work and exhibition news and to continue friendships. This impressive, contemporary and eclectic collection of work is their first exhibition, bringing the light and colour of Cornwall to Henley-on-Thames. Each of the twenty-six artists will be showing two paintings, including tutor Ashley Hanson, who, as part of his teaching, produces a painting on each course. Admission is free to the gallery in Upper Market Place.
On Saturday 21 July, 1- 5pm, there is an opportunity to meet the artists and share a glass of wine. Everyone welcome.
To coincide with the exhibition and throughout August, Ashley Hanson will also be showing a selection of his Cornish paintings at Modern Artists Gallery, Whitchurch-on-Thames. Ashley has an extensive national exhibition record, including The RA Summer Exhibition, National Open Art and The Discerning Eye.

The exhibition takes place at The Old Fire Station Gallery in Henley-on-Thames. If you would like to participate please email for an Artists Registration Form. Artists from our April Porthleven and May Port Isaac courses will also be eligible to show their work.
Closing date for registration is 31 May 2018.
